Norwich Poetry Club is back! Yep. The residents (Martin Figura, John Osborne, Hannah Jane Walker and Luke Wright) return for a third season with a brand new programme of the best in the poetry scene across the UK. Past events have featured Luke Kennard, Hugo Williams, Caroline Bird and George Szirtes, and we are DELIGHTED that November’s NPC is headlined by John Hegley. Bloody marvelous. Support comes from Martin, John and Hannah, with Luke compering. Come along. Stick around for a drink after. It’s always a fun night, especially so with Mr Hegley telling stories.
£5, 7.30 pm, The Bicycle Shop, St Benedicts Street.
Just a short note to say hold the date: Tuesday 22 November John Hegley is coming to Norwich Poetry Club. We don’t know who’s doing support or what we’re going to wear but trust me it’ll be immense.
Hannah, John, Luke and Martin meet today to discuss future poetry clubs. Who would you like us to book?
Hello Verse Fans,
Norwich Poetry Club is having a little break - Hannah, Martin, John and I are off to do our shows at The Edinburgh Fringe, then Hannah and I go onto Melbourne (I’m also playing Spalding in October, so ner)
We’ll be back in October with some very special guests. So stay tuned.
Happy Summer,
Luke
Sweet June! Festival season is upon us but you, my little poetry worker bees, don’t need to worry about pop-up tents and sickly cider because we’re bringing a smorgasbord of poetic delights to your doorstep.*
Yup, prepare your good selves for “the queen of British performance poetry” (Metro). Yes, Francesca Beard is in town with her poetry spectre and crown to wow you all with her “spine-tingling, witty and narcotic” poetry (The Independent). Francesca’s poetry is sublime, lifting you out of a dreary Tuesday evening and taking you all around the world, before dropping you gently back down again, feeling all the better for the journey.
Supporting Francesca we have Suffolk’s own Dean Parkin, star of the Edinburgh Fringe show Dean’s Dad’s Ducks. The Scotsman recently described Dean as a “natural born story-teller” and we have to agree. We’re delighted to welcome him into our candlelit basement for a few witty tales.
PLUS … We have young poet Hasina Allen, who is something of a star on UEA’s creative writing scene and “one to watch” for the future. And our very own Martin Figura who’s been brewing a few new ones for you.
It’s all hosted by Luke Wright (“One of the funniest and most brilliant poets of his generation,” Johann Hari).
